Dear Members and Friends of Elkin Presbyterian Church,Doug-headshot 3

At a specially-called meeting of the church council last night, the Session approved my request to terminate my interim contract with Elkin Presbyterian Church effective July 31, 2012. After much discernment, I’ve accepted the invitation to be the Interim Pastor for the Shallowford Presbyterian church located in Lewisville, NC.

My work will begin on August 1, 2012 and my last day with you will be Sunday, July 22nd.

This decision wasn't easily made or without consultation with members of the Committee on Ministry and Presbytery staff. With the PNC elected, and the critical matters that required my attention now in order, I believe it's time for me to move on. Because an interim doesn't have long-term stability in a congregation, I trust that you will understand that I need to be open to ministry opportunities when they arise.

It has been an honor to serve the people of this church. I can without reservation say that you have been the best church I’ve served in my 23 years of ministry. The people are gracious, the staff has been great to work with, and the facility is gorgeous. The Ruling Elders are a solid group and have the capability to ably govern through this latest transition. The congregation has been and will be well-served by the council.

Only God knows who is being led to be your next installed pastor. Your PNC is an amazing team and I’m confident they will be a discerning group and that they will do right by the church. The person who accepts the call to be your next pastor will be blessed beyond their imagination. May God richly bless you.

With Grace and Peace,

Doug Gebhard
