Regular Session Meeting
Elkin Presbyterian Church
May 17, 2015


Ruling Elders present:
Shane Atwood, Beth Garner, Will Gwyn, Ken Hon, Pam Mickey, Carolyn Sprinkle, Courtney Snyder and Rusty Tysor.

Teaching Elder present: Rev. Stuart Taylor.

Absent:
Pat Cosby and Billy Ford

Opening Prayer and reflection: Rev. Taylor served as moderator and opened the meeting with prayer at 6:00 PM. Reflection for the evening was “Spiritual Gifts”.

Clerks Report:
  A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the April 12, 2015 Session meeting (Mickey/Hon). Motion carried.

Pastors Report:
Rev. Taylor will be leaving for Cuba on May 23, 2015 and returning on June 3, 2015.

Seminary Intern does not look promising for this year, maybe next year.

Committee Reports
as needed:

Congregational Care:
Beth Garner gave the report. Events in the past year: Kirk Nights, Holy Week, Talent Show, Choir Festival, Senior Picnic, Veterans Dinner, Candlelight Service, Bereavement Meals.

Future events suggested: Annual Picnic late summer, “Tables of Eight” dinners in individual homes and Special music night.

Endowment Fund Committee:
Will Gwyn gave the report. The committee is currently interviewing Financial Advisors for the EPC Endowment Fund. The funds are established and available to accept legacy gifts from congregants.

Finance:
Carolyn Sprinkle gave the report: Total Income to date - $106,389.00, total expense to date - $109,660.00, total current assets to date $380,798.00

Membership: 
Ken Hon gave the report. Rev. Taylor passed out the Action plan for EPC Church Growth proposed by the Membership Committee for program year 2016. Objective: To raise the visibility of EPC to familiarize new comers and un-churched people with the EPC Missions via various programs. The Session reviewed and discussed all items and will continue to work with committees to implement strategy.

Property:
Will Gwyn gave the report. The parking lot is in need of repair and repaving, this is the prudent route to take versus patching and sealing. Cost to repair and resurface will be between $35,000.00 and $40,000.00. A motion was made and seconded to proceed with repair and repaving (Atwood/Sprinkle). Motion Carried.

New Business:
Session clarified that “Kirk Night” will follow the school calendar.

Old Business:
None

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn (Sprinkle/Atwood). Motion carried.

Rev. Taylor closed the meeting with prayer at 7:50pm.
