Join us on Mondays!

Contemplation and centering prayer are spiritual practices.

Our Christian contemplative roots date back to Jesus in the desert, a place where he often went to be with God.  It was carried forward by the "Desert Mothers and Fathers" of the 3rd century who were fleeing persecution because of their faith.

Rev. Arlo reminded us in a recent sermon that, right now, life can feel like a desert – it's overwhelming – the news, our neighborhoods, the anxiety and anger – we wonder how God is going to lead us in this desert.  She encouraged us to think about the ways in which God is caring for us – the way our Creator does in the desert where there is scarcity and hardship but also hidden beauty and sustenance.  She went on to encourage us to take time to relax, center down, and spend quiet time in the loving presence of God.  This time of contemplation is a time to get out of our heads and move to our hearts and let the Holy Spirit nourish us so that we can then go back into the world to feed the hungry and to see the sacred light of Christ in all of creation.  Think what the world would be like if every person would truly look for the divine Light within every other person and within all of God's creation.

Please join us some Monday at 4PM if the Spirit moves you, no pressure.
