EMBRACE LOVE & PEACE

Elkin Presbyterian Church

Focus on Mission

The theme, “Nourishing Body and Soul,” adopted by our Session, embodies the mission of Elkin Presbyterian church, which is to reach out in Christian love to those in need locally and globally.  To that end, EPC is focusing on following Jesus by feeding hungry people.

To further refine this focus locally, EPC is promoting the needs of local missions and organizations to alleviate the problem of hunger. In order to have the most impact, we will focus our collective efforts around a mission or organization for a quarter of the year. While these groups have been supported by our church in the past, this focus will give us an opportunity to provide greater help to each mission or organization.

  • Tri-County Christian Crisis Ministry (Tri-C)

  • School Backpack Mission is the second focus, with an initiative to provide backpacks filled with easily prepared food for those students who may suffer from hunger during the summer vacation from school.

  • EPC also has a “Blessing Box” which stocks donated food and toiletries.

  • Habitat

  • The Ark

  • Grace Clinic

  • Monthly Student Meal Bags during the school months.

  • Hurricane Helene Victims

  • “Cents-Ability /Two Cents a Meal Offering” is taken the first Sunday of each month. Contributions are donated to combat local hunger.

  • Christmas Joy Offering” giving financial support for racial and ethnic leadership as well as education for students attending Presbyterian-related schools and colleges

  • “One Great Hour of Sharing Offering” which is used to support ministries providing relief for those affected by natural disasters

  • “Pentecost Special Offering” which focuses on the needs of at-risk children

  • “Peace and Global Witness Offering” promoting ministries of reconciliation and peace within cultures of violence and conflict

Please watch for updates on our journey of “Nourishing Body and Soul” or contribute to one of these missions.

Educate A Child / Transform The World

We have been able to use generous contributions from the congregation to support students in our local school system!

We provide food bags including packaged breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snack items to students that are experiencing food insecurity at Elkin Elementary School and Elkin High School.

We look forward to expanding our work in 2026 and living further into our covenant, as Presbyterians, “to our common commitment of joining in God’s ongoing transformation of the world by working and advocating to ensure equitable, accessible, quality public education so that all people, created in the image of God, may grow into the fullness of life.”

Gun Violence Prevention

We grieve for those who are killed and those whose lives are forever changed;

We seek to comfort those who have lost loved ones;

We pray for a change of heart for those who resort to violence….

“One of the greatest sins a church can commit is being boring and irrelevant…To represent the Gospel, the church has to recognize and take a stand on the ethical issues of its times, or else what is it for?”

Christopher B. Hayes | Professor, Fuller Theological Seminary

“While you may choose to be silent when it comes to gun violence out of concern for who may anger, your silence is also sending a message to those who are most impacted by gun violence [women, children, youth, LGBTQ+, and people of color] that their trauma and suffering don’t matter.”
